CONCEPT OF BILIARY STENT

Biliary stent or sometimes known as Bile Duct Stent is generally used when a fully or partially blockage in the bile duct occurs and bile is unable  to flow into the duodenum to aid the digestion and finally cause the bile to build up in the liver and create jaundice, nausea or abdominal pain like symptoms. Biliary stent like material is inserted either to reduce or eliminate the blockage. The stent is such a material the when it reaches its targeted area, it expands and opens the channels in it to provide enough space for the fluids to move into the intestine.

The biliary stent is placed in the duodenum at the time of endoscopy through a guide wire first to the papilla and into the bile duct and guided into the position. Then the doctor open the stent which is designed to stay in the place and maintain the opening for a period of time which might be a period of about 12 months. The stenting is performed either with plastic or with metal body, with a general recommendation of replacing after every 3 to 6 months forgetting which might involve surgical intervention. This process in very effective for the blockage of bile duct due to pancreatic cancer also. Doctor’s recommendation, proper diet before and after the process and use of appropriate enzyme supplements are much needed to go through the process at its best.

The biliary stents can be easily found over the internet and might be available to the health care provider upon demand. Due to its increasing demands over a long period of time several medical instrumental companies have stepped forward with facilities like sterility, compatibility with radiotherapy and with variable guide wire  and instrument channel sizes into the biliary stents to not only achieve the desired target sales but also to provide extra care and suitability for the users.  Generally the biliary stent price in India varies depending on the length and material of the stent and also upon the factors that already have been discussed earlier. Though the hospital prices for the stent is little bit lower than the retailers but availability in the hospitals is always been an issue.

Sometimes an ERCP for a biliary stent cause pancreatitis is an inflammation in pancreas causing symptoms like back pain or being sick. Long retaining the stent in the body might affect one with a stone like coating on its surface that might cause urinary side effects. The risks associated with stenting includes allergic reaction to medication, breathing problem sometimes, bleeding, blood clots, blockage of artery, stones etc. Thus, visiting a recognized physician or a surgeon is much needed before or after stenting.

The process of biliary stenting is definitely risky and involves money engagement in a huge manner but the demand, material and the length decides the biliary stent price in country like India. Thus, surveying over the hospitals or over the internet would always be the wiser option.
